About Boy Scout Troop 199 – Maumee, Ohio

Proudly chartered to Maumee United Methodist Church in Maumee, Ohio, since 1952. Our troop is dedicated to fostering leadership, outdoor, and survival skills in our Scouts while having fun and making lasting memories. We believe that the outdoors is the perfect classroom, and that's why we take monthly camping trips where our Scouts learn valuable skills such as camping, hiking, cooking, and teamwork. Our experienced leaders guide and teach Scouts how to navigate nature and enjoy the great outdoors safely.

Our ultimate goal is to see our Scouts grow into responsible and confident leaders who strive to make a positive impact in their communities. We encourage our Scouts to aim for the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts. Along the way, they will develop valuable life skills and make lifelong friends. Join us in our journey to build character, citizenship, and fitness in the young men of our community. We can't wait to meet you and help you discover your full potential in Boy Scout Troop 199.

Scouts Uncharted: Troop 199's Expedition Into Character

In the woods and by the fire,
Troop 199 gathers with one desire:
To learn, to grow, to do our best,
And put our skills to the test.

With backpacks packed and boots laced tight,
We set out on a journey, day or night,
To explore the beauty of the land,
And work together, hand in hand.

We pitch our tents and light the flame,
As our Troop shares stories and plays a game,
We sing and laugh, our spirits high,
As we learn the meaning of "Do and try!"

For in Troop 199, we are more than friends,
We are brothers, bound by a common end,
To build a life of service, honor, and trust,
And be leaders in our communities, fair and just.

We take an oath, we make a pledge,
To uphold values that never fledge,
To be brave, clean, and reverent too,
To help others and always be true.

So let us raise our voices high,
And let our Scouting spirit fly,
For we are Troop 199, proud to be,
A part of something truly free!

  • The Scout Oath

The Scout Oath is a pledge or promise that is taken by members of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and other scouting organizations. It reads as follows:

"On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
    and to obey the Scout Law;
    To help other people at all times;
    To keep myself physically strong,
    mentally awake, and morally straight."

The Scout Oath emphasizes a commitment to duty, service, and personal development. It reflects the values of the scouting movement and guides Scouts in their daily lives, encouraging them to be responsible, caring, and productive members of their communities.

  • The Scout Law

The Scout Law is a code of conduct or set of principles that guide the behavior and character of members of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and other scouting organizations. The Scout Law consists of 12 points, which are as follows:

    A Scout is ...

    • Trustworthy
    • Loyal
    • Helpful
    • Friendly
    • Courteous
    • Kind
    • Obedient
    • Cheerful
    • Thrifty
    • Brave
    • Clean
    • Reverent

The Scout Law emphasizes important values such as honesty, loyalty, kindness, and obedience. It provides a framework for Scouts to develop good character and make ethical choices in their daily lives. By striving to live up to the Scout Law, Scouts learn to be responsible, respectful, and compassionate individuals who contribute positively to their communities.

Scouts often recite the Scout Law as part of their meetings and ceremonies, and it is an integral part of the scouting experience. The Scout Law is a timeless set of principles that continue to guide Scouts today, just as they have for over a century.

  • The Scout Outdoor Code

The Scout Outdoor Code is a set of guidelines that Scouts are encouraged to follow when enjoying the outdoors. It emphasizes the importance of respecting the environment and leaving it better than you found it. The code reads:

"As an American, I will do my best to ...

    • Be clean in my outdoor manners.
    • Be careful with fire.
    • Be considerate in the outdoors.
    • Be conservation-minded."

By following the Scout Outdoor Code, Scouts learn to be responsible and considerate when enjoying the outdoors, and to take action to protect and preserve natural resources for future generations.
